When I was growing up in the 80s, I used to go outside w/my brother Mike & my sister Vicky & sometimes a neighborhood friend or two & we would arm ourselves w/Frisbees & play 'Tron' in our front yard. That same front yard was also the setting for the many matches I would have against imaginary foes as I pretended to be Jimmy Valiant. These days I play 'Tron' w/my five year old son Douglas & when we wrestle in the living room, I'm still pretending to be the Boogie Woogie Man. Some things never change! Be back this Thursday, 1/27 for the next chapter in this Tron inspired saga. & be sure to check back every Monday & Thursday for a new Boogieland strip! In the 80s it seemed like all of my favorite cartoon & comic book characters ended up getting stuck inside a computer at some point. This was mostly influenced by the movie Tron, but also by the facination w/computers that was so prevalent during that decade. I thought it would be fun to see how Boogie would handle being stuck in a similar predicament. I hope you enjoy finding out along w/me. Should be a fun ride! Be here this coming Monday 1/24 for the next stop on this unique adventure. & be sure to check back every Monday & Thursday for a new Boogieland strip! Also, be sure to visit the real Boogieland in person any Sunday from 12 noon to 4pm. Admission is free! Click HERE for more info. Thanks for reading!
Welcome to an all new storyline Boogieland fans! Just wait until you see where this ride takes us! (If you can't already guess that is!) Be back this Thursday, for the next thrilling installment!
Well, that wraps up the Oblong Circle Saga. Not to sound like a skipping CD, but it sure was fun doing a story featuring my favorite wrestler & my favorite writer & even the world famous Magnet Man too. I hope you enjoyed it as well. I have posted a picture below of me at the Poe Museum in Richmond, VA during one of my many visits there. I'll have to get back there soon. Be here this Monday for the start of a whole new Boogieland storyline. & be sure to check back every Monday & Thursday for a new Boogieland strip! Many years ago, I was surfing the internet & I came across an offer that I just couldn't see myself refusing. It was on the Richmond Poe Museum website & it was something I couldn't live w/out. It had all started w/a 'good news/bad news' type situation. The bad news was the last Manhattan residence of Edgar A. Poe was being torn down. You can probably guess the good news. That's right, they were making the actual bricks from the building available for purchase for a measly $80. I was about to jump at the chance when I realized I should probably consult my wife on such an expensive purchase. My wife, as it turns out, is not quite as impressed w/historic building materials as I am, but w/a little persuasion (see begging) I was able to talk her into it. & now I am the proud owner of an $80 Edgar A. Poe brick from his last Manhattan residence. Yes, I'll admit I am prouder of that than I probably should be. Still, I think it is a cool thing for any Poe fan to have in their collection & it is inspiring to me as a writer. Speaking of which, I hope you enjoyed this week's comic strip. Be here this Thursday for another exciting installment of this adventure. & be sure to check back every Monday & Thursday for a new Boogieland strip! One great Poe memory that I'll always cherish, which is also slightly tied in w/comics, was the time my friends Jonathan, Griff & I all went to the Baltimore Comic Convention. Being in Baltimore for the first time, it seemed appropriate to make a point to seek out the final resting place of my favorite poet. A small group of us left the convention center & after wandering for what seemed like forever, we finally reached Poe's grave. It was well worth the journey just to be at that historic site. Next time maybe I'll tell you the story of the $80 brick.
Be here this Monday for that & of course an all new installment in the saga. & be sure to check back every Monday & Thursday for a new Boogieland strip! Not that long ago, I had a birthday tradition which involved going to the Poe Museum in Richmond, VA. My birthday is in the fall, so the weather & scenery always seemed perfect for such a visit. These days my birthday tradition each year involves going to Boogie's Wrestling Camp. Another reason why it is fun for me to put these two favorites together in the same comic strip. Be here this Thursday for another exciting installment of this adventure. & be sure to check back every Monday & Thursday for a new Boogieland strip!
