Happy Leap Day everybody! Happy Leap Year! I've wanted to do a 'leap year annual' comic for a long time now, but it's just never worked out. & obviously when you miss a leap year, you have to wait quite a while for another one to come along. Finally, this was my leap year & I was able to finish the double-sized Boogieland or Bust Leap Year Annual #1, which I am proudly presenting to you here! This is the first in an ongoing series so look for Boogieland Leap Year Annual #2 to be published when the next leap year rolls around! Happy Birthday to all those born on this unique day! Click Here for the main Boogieland or Bust ongoing strip! I posted this on my Fan Blog instead of w/the main Boogieland strip since I am currently in the middle of a storyline & didn't want to confuse anyone. Plus, it is actually its own stand alone side-project anyway. I hope everyone enjoys this first Boogieland or Bust Leap Year Annual #1. See you in about 4 years for issue #2! I highly recommend a visit to the real Boogieland in person any Sunday, from 12 noon to 4pm. Admission is free! Click HERE for more info. Thanks for reading! Take care!

I'm one for celebrating milestones, & today is certainly a big one for me personally. Today marks ten years of Magnet Man comics! Way back on 1-2-02, I published Magnet Man Minicomics #1. That series ran for over 4 years and 57 issues before being replaced by a weekly online comic called Magnet Mansion. Magnet Mansion ran for 130 issues before I went back to doing print MM comics in the form of one-shot adventures which usually featured my favorite pro-wrestler, Jimmy Valaint. These comics usually also appeared online & were mainly distributed at comic shows & wrestling events. Then, just over a year ago, Magnet Man began appearing in adventures w/his BWC Family right here on this website in the twice weekly Boogieland or Bust comic! Along the way Magnet Man has made appearances in several differet comic publications including a regualr strip in *PPFSZT! from Main Enterprises. He has also appeared outside of comics in the form of three mini-movies, an official Jimmy Valiant DVD, Michael Elliott's Woo... Mercy documentary & even mentions on radio & in newspaper articles! For more info about Magnet Man's ten year history in comics, check out this great write-up by Magnet Man fan & expert, my mom Faye! You never know where Magnet Man might show up next, but one thing's for sure, I can't wait for the next ten years of Magnet Man Comics! Thanks to all of the Magnet Man fans for all of the great letters & e-mails & pin-ups & for sharing these last ten years of fun & adventure w/me. I look forward to sharing the next ten & beyond w/you! Thanks for reading! Take care. Cordially, Brien Check out this great MM art by Chris Cowan. Just one of the many, many drawings of my character done by fans, friends & family over the years.
I love Halloween! I always have loved Halloween from as early as I can remember. & every year since I started trick-or-treating, I have dressed up in costume for the spooky holiday. For the past several years, since 2007 to be exact, I have kept a fun tradition of dressing up as a famous professional wrestler. Here is a look at all of my wrestler costumes from then until now... Of course I had to start the whole tradition off w/my all-time favorite wrestler, Jimmy Valiant. Here's me in 2007 as the Boogie Woogie Man! I dressed as Crazy Bugsy McGraw in 2008! This is probably my favorite of the costumes as it looked the most like the original. For 2009, I decided to turn bad guy & dressed as the scary Jos LeDuc! The most fun part about this costume was getting to smash up an old radio like the real LeDuc did to Boogie back in the day! Here's me as Pampero Firpo in 2010 w/the real Jimmy Valiant! I first heard of Firpo in Boogie's book & the more research I did on him the more I liked him. I knew he would be a great Halloween costume! I had seen Avalanche Buzz Tyler here & there in the past, but when I saw a recently posted youtube video showing Tyler & Valiant paying off another team for the chance to get their hands on Paul Jones & his Army, I knew this would be the perfect costume for this year. & yes, I made sure to have some play money tucked away in my jacket pocket just in case I needed to buy someone's spot in a match! Speaking of my jacket, for financial reasons I decided to just use the same 'ring jacket' that I used for Pampero the year before. For what it's worth, we can just pretend that Tyler beat Firpo in a match for the jacket! & finally, I just had to include a picture of my son, Douglas, in his only pro wrestler Halloween costume to date (unless you count Spider-Man). Here his is in last year's awesome Hawk costume! The Road Warriors are his all-time favorite tag-team. This year he is going as Darth Vader!

Wrestling lost a great star & BWC lost a dear family member when Hugh "Shorty" Meador passed away recently. Better known to his fans & friends as Tiny Bell, he was well loved by Boogie, Angel & everyone at the camp. He received an honorary degree from BWC in 2008. For me personally, it was always nice to walk into the main camp building & see Tiny Bell sitting there w/his beautiful family. He always made me feel welcome & was a pleasure to talk to. I treasure the 8x10 autographed photo that I got from Tiny Bell when he was a special honored guest at one of the annual Springtime Bash shows in Shawsville, VA. I love that picture because I feel it really embodies the greatness of that classic wrestling era that he was a part of. The last time I saw Tiny Bell was at a wrestling show in Rocky Mount, VA where I had the honor of introducing him to my son Douglas. Douglas was excited to meet another Hall of Fame pro wrestler. I was also honored to have Tiny Bell appear in my Mistaken Liberty short film. Now we know Tiny Bell is in that big wrestling ring in the sky. He joins another dear family member, Ray Pendleton, who graduated BWC in 2006 & left us way too soon at the age of 31. Neither man will be forgotten at BWC. Tiny Bell was a true legend & more importantly a great man. He will be missed.
Happy Birthday Boogie! I hope your special day is as wonderful & fun & amazing as you are! We all love you! Thanks for everything!
I've never been one to cheer for the bad guy. But there have been plenty of bad guy wrestlers that I've loved to hate. & then there was the New Breed, who I wanted to love, but couldn't. When I first saw the New Breed on TV, I thought it was awesome how different they looked from everybody else & I thought it was great that they acted like they were from the future. 2002 to be exact. I was a fan of the Beastie Boys, so I liked their entrance music as well. But, sadly they turned out to be bad guys, so I couldn't really cheer for them. Especially when they started talking trash about my all time favorite wrestler. (as evidenced in the YouTube videos below) & when they brought in a talking lady robot from the future for the sole purpose of saying nasty things about the good guys, well, that was just going a little too far! I was overjoyed when they finally saw the light & changed their evil ways. Unfortunately, not long after their change of heart, they pretty much vanished from sight. I presume President Rhodes must have called them back to the future. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted! The Valiant Brothers, Jimmy & Johnny, made a rare appearance together recently at Pro Wrestling World in Allentown, PA & Jason Strecker was nice enough to send us a few great pics from the historic occasion! Click on the pics below for a larger image. Jason also sent a link to an article by Matt Assad for the Morning Call about the event. Thanks for passing along the great pics & the article Jason! Glad you had a good time w/the Valiant Brothers!
When I think of Macho Man Randy Savage, the first thoughts that come to mind are the amazing match w/ Steamboat at Wrestlemania III, winning the belt the next year, the Mega Powers, & the in-ring wedding to Elizabeth. & of course all those awesome Slim Jim commericals that were not only fun & entertaining, but also got wrestling into the homes of non-wrestling fans. More recently there was the great performance as Bonesaw McGraw in the blockbuster hit Spiderman movie. & so many other great wrestling memories that we will always have to remember him by. Still so sad to hear of his passing. My heart goes out to his entire family during this time of loss. A local news station came to BWC to talk to Boogie about the loss of his fellow wrestler & longtime friend. You can click here to see that special tribute, which was broadcast yesterday afternoon. Also, check out these touching memorials to the Macho Man done on the official WWE site & the official TNA site. I'll always remember Randy Savage, the Macho Man, climing to the very top rope & jumping high into the air to land a crushing elbow on his opponent for the one, two, three! Ohhhh Yeaaah! Yesterday, the world lost a manager of champions & a true champion himself, Sir Oliver Humperdink. Some of my earliest memories of Jimmy Valiant include his classic feud with Sir Oliver & his House of Humperdink. While they may have been on opposite sides of the wrestling ring, I know by reading the nice things Boogie says about Humperdink in his book that the two became close friends. Humperdink had such a great, unique look w/the long red hair & red beard & those cool sunglasses. I was happy when he became a good guy because it meant I could finally cheer for him! He will be missed and fondly remembered. Our thoughts and prayers are w/ his loved ones during this difficult time of loss. God bless the House of Humperdink!
