When I was a kid, I used to love to play the Donkey Kong arcade game in the front lobby of our local department store. I spent quite a few of my mom's quarters trying to help Mario dodge barrels & save the pretty girl. Later, when I was dating my future wife, we would spend hours in the basement of her mother's house playing Super Mario 3 on the Nintendo. These days, my son Douglas plays any number of video games which feature the Mario character. So you can imagine it was quite a thrill for us to meet the real Super Mario live & in person recently during a family vacation. Super Mario was a wrestling star in the USWA as well as many other federations & is a member of the BWC Hall of Fame. It was great meeting Super Mario & it was neat to hear him tell stories from his wrestling career including his hilarious rendition of the 'Happy Burpday' story from Boogie's book. I was impressed w/the amount of time Super Mario took w/my four year old son Douglas. He taught Douglas a wrestling hold, gave him some valuable words of wisdom & even gave him a Super Mario trading card as a gift. It is easy to see why children & their parents alike aways loved Super Mario as they cheered him to victory in the ring. & Super Mario is still taking care of business in & around the squared circle as he continues to make appearances and compete in matches. In fact, he told us about being featured in an article in the Spring 2010 issue of an international publication called Video Game Traders Magazine. The print version of that particular issue was so popular that it seems to have already sold out, but a digital version is currently still available & you can also currently read the article directly online in a preview on the Video Game Traders Magazine website. Click here to go to the offical site to check out the great article on page six about Super Mario and the crossover between video games & wrestling. My wife, my son & I had a wonderful time visiting w/the namesake of one of our favorite video game characters & we are collectively looking forward to seeing him again. Thanks Super Mario!
