As a special Valentine’s Day treat, I’d like to share w/you the following romantic footage I found on YouTube recently. Watch as The Boogie Woogie Man courts Adrian Street’s valet Miss Linda & ends up paying the price. This story did have a happy ending though. Jimmy & Adrian eventually worked out their differences & even formed a short-lived tag team. Miss Linda & Adrian Street are together to this day & of course Boogie eventually found his true love, Angel. I hope each of you has a Valentine’s Day full of love, happiness & maybe even some candy! Thanks for reading!
When you think of Valentine’s Day, some of the first things that may come to your mind are love, hearts, flowers & candy. If you are a long time wrestling fan then you will probably also think of Johnny Valentine & his son Greg ‘The Hammer’ Valentine. I have to admit Johnny’s career was a bit before my time, but his legend is not lost on me. Not long ago I was at a BWF wrestling show & I picked up a VHS tape called Wrestling’s Greatest Matches, The Golden Era. There is a terrific, action packed match on that tape which features Johnny Valentine doing battle w/Buddy Rogers. It was a great introduction to just how exciting Valentine could be in the ring. I have since enjoyed several of Valentine’s matches thanks to the internet. & of course, being a diehard Mid-Atlantic fan I remember Greg Valentine very well. I have to admit I never liked him because of his bad attitude & dishonest tactics & I always cheered for him to lose. Considering he didn’t want the support of the fans then I guess that should be considered a compliment. & despite my cheering against him, his wrestling ability & desire to hurt people led him to a very successful championship career in the sport that continues to this day. Plus, he has the distinction of being a former partner to King James, which of course was the name Jimmy Valiant used briefly when he first entered the NWA. You can actually see footage of King James & Valentine together as a team on Vol. 1 of Boogie’s ‘Best of’ DVDs. The Hammer was also one half of the Dream Team who were managed by none other than Valiant Brother Lucious Johnny V. & in keeping w/the Valentine theme of this post, when Jimmy formed his very first tag team w/Gary Molenhour, they were known as The Valentine Brothers. Jimmy’s surname was of course later changed to Valiant to avoid confusion w/Johnny Valentine. Be sure to check out Boogie’s new Ultimate Shoot Interview DVD to hear him talk about the great Johnny Valentine & many other wrestling stars.
